The Bible, the pub and normal women
What an interesting evening last night!
I've been going through the Purple Book (a little book on Biblical Foundations) with 2 good friends of mine, Paul and Michael, maybe for the last 4 or 5 months. We came to our last session and decided that we would go to the pub for a serious plate of food to celebrate. So, last night, we went and the food was serious (they don't call it the big plate special for nothing) and Mike ended up having 2 plates!
After dinner, we opened our Purple Books and started talking about the last chapter 'Resurrection and judgement'. The conversation quickly moved to the reality of another life after this one and how we should have an urgency to help people get a revelation of Jesus in this life rather than in the next. So we talked about meeting people, really loving them, helping them get to know our awesome God... and the challenges of actually doing so.
As these things go, before we knew it, we had a stranger sitting at our table and seconds later her friend (and 4 children), so we started talking about Jesus (we were talking about Him anyway). We were in a pub of course, so it goes without saying that at least one of the ladies had had quite a bit to drink, which led to a very interesting conversation. At one point, as we were still talking about God, the one asked us if we thought she was normal... referring to her chest! After about half an hour, we left and greeted them as if we were old friends with handshakes and even a hug.
An interesting night, but is there a moral? I'm not sure... but if there is, I think it has to do with the fact that God loves people and that He is going after them, even to the seemingly 'difficult' places. 'You can run, but you can't hide' is the phrase that comes to mind. The question I ask myself is, 'Am I willing to follow Him to where people are trying to hide?'
On a personal note, things are going really well here in Slough. The Albrecht family is healthy and happy! Liya-Jean is 18 months old and more beautiful and fun than ever. She's even starting to say 'please' when she wants a third mandarin or watch another hour of TV!
Peace to you
