Trying to get out of the Philippines!
So it turns out that it really is more fun in the Philippines, so much so that they don't want you to leave! When I arrived at the airport this morning, I heard that my 7am flight had been moved earlier to 1am. Luckily they emailed me at 11pm last night... That's right, 2 hours before the flight! Long story short, I am on an 11am flight now and will then stay over in Abu Dhabi to fly to London in the morning. My 19 hour trip has just turned into a 36 hour one. Thank you Jesus that it's just me and not the family as well!
It's been one of the most incredible weeks of my life. I have slept less than I have in years, but I am more rested than I have been in years. I was reminded of something one of my great mentors, Wolfi, often says: resting is not doing nothing, but doing the right thing. The right thing or things is that which makes us come alive. This week, I have been reminded of a few things that make me come alive, one of them being the ocean. I have always loved the ocean and all that she has to offer. It feels like spending some time diving (and swallowing a few litres of salt water) have added 10 years to my life.
So yes, after our day island hopping in Coron, we had a rest day (hallelujah!) during which we flew to Cebu. There we met a cab driver (thank you Noel and Gina for arranging) who took us to Oslob to dive with the butanding. That's whale sharks. What an incredible experience to swim with these gentle giants. Truly a lifetime memory. Our cab driver then took us back to Cebu to check out some of the historic sites. I now know more about the origin of the Philippines than I do about the UK. Go Lapu Lapu! That same day (why stay over when you can travel 24/7) we flew back to Manila and crashed for some much needed sleep.
The following day was another relaxed day. Wonder Woman and the most abundant buffet I've ever seen. And then it my last day in this amazing country. We didn't waste it. We went wakeboarding! I don't think my arms will ever be the same... Pain! Finally, the cherry on top, the highlight of my trip, was having the privilege of spending 2 hours talking to 2 amazing guys about Jesus and the message of the cross. God sets up divine appointments even in tattoo parlours! I love that about Him.
So here we are. I will hopefully board in an hour. Only 34 hours to go. Thank you Henry and Arlene for the holiday of a lifetime, Suzanne for giving me the freedom to go, my parents for being so generous with their acts of service to help at home and everyone who helped me get here. God bless you abundantly!
